The winners of support offered by the Ayuntamiento de Merida present the results of their projects. The winners include Yoochel Kaaj, Cine Video Cultura, A.C., Igor Solís, Mina Bárcenas y Paloma Menéndez.

119th Anniversary of the Fall of Jose Marti
Jose Marti was a Cuban revolutionary when Cuba was fighting for independence from Spain. In addition to being a national leader, he was also a poet and a writer, whose work continues to inspire Latin Americans to this day.

Movie: El niño Fidencio, El Taumaturgo de Espinazo
El niño Fidencio, el taumaturgo de Espinazo documents how thousands of people congregate every year in the Hacienda del Espinazo in Nuevo Leon, Mexico to commemorate Fidencio de Jesus Sintora Constantino. Grateful for the miracles that El niño Fidencio, they engage in fervorous healing rituals.

Movie: The One Man Village
Semaan is leading a quiet life on his farm in the small village of Ain al-Halazoun in the Lebanese mountains. The hamlet was completely emptied and destroyed in combats during the civil war in Lebanon between 1975 and 1990. Today, many years after an official reconciliation, its inhabitants, who are all from one family, regularly go back to the village to cultivate their plots of land or visit their houses and always leave before sunset.

Classical Music: Youth Symphonic Orchestra of Yucatan
The title of this performance is Del solar al salón, el Danzón. For those who are unfamiliar with the musical genre Danzón, this is the official musical genre and dance of Cuba. It is also an active musical form in Mexico and is still beloved in Puerto Rico. The danzón evolved from the Cuban contradanza (also known as the habanera). In Cuba, these dances were influenced by African rhythmic and dance styles and so became a genuine fusion of European and African influences.This type of music is perfect for the talents of a Youth Symphonic Orchestra. Edgar Sulú is the director of this performance. Franklin Brokks and Héctor Hernández are soloists.

Claudia, a lonely young woman, works in a supermarket. One night, she ends up in the hospital with a severe case of appendicitis. There, she meets Martha, the woman resting in the bed next to hers. Martha, who lives alone with her four children, gains Claudia's trust. When she gets out of the hospital, she spontaneously offers Claudia to go home with them. Getting to know this family makes Claudia feel at ease. And for the first time she experiences a sense of belonging in this peculiar little tribe. As Martha's health weakens every day the bond Claudia has with each member of the family grows stronger.

Yucatan Symphony Orchestra: May/ June Schedule

The last symphony of the Spring Season is always one of the best events in Merida for the year. For tonight’s performance, the Concert Director is Juan Carlos Lomonaco and the Scene Director is Horacio Almada. Rossini’s Cinderela, tonight, features: Gabriela Thierry, Oscar de la Torre, Josue Ceron, Sergio Meneses, Claudia Rodriguez, Irasema Terrazas, and Emilio Carsi. If you love opera, great music, and performances by an ensemble that cannot be matched anywhere, this is the concert to see!

XXVII Marathon of the Marina 2014: June 8
This marathon has grown to be one of the largest in Yucatan. The prize pool this year is more than $500,000 pesos, and includes two compact cars, two motorcycles, and trips to the Riviera Maya. The marathon will be a total distance of 42.195 km and the half-marathon will be 21 km. Registration: May 5 to June 6.
