X’matkuil State Fair: November 7 – November 30
These events take place at the X’matkuil fairgrounds. Admission is only $15 pesos and parking is $30 pesos. In addition to theater events, there are so many performance shows that it makes this fair the largest center for nightlife in southeast Mexico right now.

Yucatan Young Creators Festival: November 12 to 23
This festival is FULL of events... too numerous to mention. Events include music recitals, trova and hip hop performances, theatrical performances, anime movies... an amazing selection of art performances! And not just in Merida. National Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe: December 12
This is one of the biggest fiestas of the year in Mexico. You can see some of the activities in Merida in Yucatan Living’s Virgin of Guadalupe Video.
Christmas and New Year's Eve
The last two weeks of December and the first five days of January are relatively quiet in Yucatan, but the new year of almost non-stop festivals begins again on January 6 (Three Kings’ Day, aka Epiphany). So do keep watch on Yucatan Living’s Events pages to see what there is to do in Merida whenever you are here.

New Ongoing Event: Cemetery Walking Tour (Wednesday Nights)
Don Wilbert Sosa, with his extensive knowledge of the history of this cemetery, will walk you through the tombs, mausoleums and roundabouts of famous people who are buried here, telling stories of those men and women who shaped the history of our state. You are cordially invited to come and learn about the various funeral rites that have existed in Merida, from pre-Hispanic to the present, and about the various architectural styles of the mausoleums and tombs.

This is one of the premier trova trios in Yucatan. They and their fellow trovadores keep trova – and romance – alive in Yucatan.

Concert: 2 of Three
Maria Moctezuma and Maria Cristina Auais present their version of different styles, such as cumbia, Gypsy, flamenco, and samba. They love improvisation and experimentation with different instruments and footage they have previously recorded. Their love of what they do spills over to their audience and everyone has a wonderful time!

Movie: El evangelio de las Maravillas
(Mexico 1998) "La Nueva Jerusalem" is a small community of believers lead by Papá Basilio (Rabal) and Mamá Dorita (Jurado). They're waiting for the second coming of Christ, so they've abandoned the world, searching for a new spiritual life. Mamá Dorita sees in young Tomasa (Gurrola) the signals of the chosen one. The young girl will be the new leader in "La Nueva Jerusalem". In Spanish.

Valladolid: Meet the Founders of Asociacion Protectora de Animales de la Calle “Conciencia Carinosa” (APACCC)
You are cordially invited to come and meet the people involved in helping the street animals of Valladolid. One by one, the dogs are picked up, examined, bathed, fed, given shots, spayed or neutered, pampered a bit, and ultimately adopted by a family, or returned to the street. We have all seen what a difference an organization like this can do in the communities where they exist. Valladolid is lucky to be on the road to their own successful impact on the quality of life for their street dogs and, ultimately, for their people as well.

(USA 1943) Tom Merriam signs on the ship Altair as third officer under Captain Stone. But after a couple strange deaths of crew members, Merriam begins to think Stone is a psychopathic madman obsessed with authority. He tries to tell others, but no one believes him, and it only makes Stone angry. In English with Spanish subtitles.

Miraculous Medal Race
This running event is open to the general public and is being held as a benefit for the Chelem Chapel. The course is approximately 14 miles long. Prizes to be announced. Categories include: free, master, submaster, male and female veterans, and veterans plus wheel chair. There will also be additional events, such as 5K hikes, walks. This event is under the direction of the Institute of Sport (IDEY).

This lavish event will open the festive season on the terrace of one of Merida’s most spectacular homes. The event will be a be a fundraiser for Oasis San Juan de Dios AC, a shelter for people affected by HIV/AIDS who have no resources and no family to care for them. Live music and dancing will follow the scrumptious dessert bar. A raffle and live auction will add to the merry-making.

International Open Chess Tournament "GM Carlos Torre Repetto" In Memoriam XXVI edition
This big chess tournament will be held from 18 to 22 December 2014, with the support of various institutions, including the Board of Carlos Torre Repetto GM Chess, Chess Players Association of the State, the State Government of Yucatan, Municipal Government of Merida, the National Chess Federation of Mexico, AC and various private companies. The Fashion Show Committee needs your gently used, summer clothing for the Boutique. VI Full Moon Jazz Festival - February 6
This event is the major fundraiser for Telchac Education. This program continues to sponsor children in school in the Telchac area and they are thriving. Three fabulous bands, dancing, the food court and full bar await you on the beach Many thanks to all of the sponsors and to everyone who participates in this Jazz Festival.
