The announcement of the new Maya year, called Kinich Kakmó in T'Hó... translated as the Scarlet Fire of the Sun in Old Merida. There will be presentations from government dignitaries, Maya priests and others. They will be ringing in the Maya New Year, called Haab. This will be the first time this event is celebrated in 500 years... it was a tradition in Merida that was interrupted by the arrival of the Spanish conquistadores. At 8 PM they will ignite the sacred fire
