17 February 2018 Art & Local Culture, Events 0

Performed at Hacienda Xcanatun in February 2018, the adaptation featured a restored hacienda as the setting of the classic opera, re-imagined in 18th century Yucatan.

Serpina (Soprano) - Mariana Palma

Uberto (Baritone) - Juan Jose Basto Rivera

Vespone (Silent) - Eric Anderson

La Serva Padrona was originally performed as an intermission show between the acts of a full opera.

"It was appealing because of its presentation of characters that were relatable to any audience, namely the cunning maid and her aging master." --Wikipedia

Hacienda Xcanatun was a working hacienda when this opera was composed in 1730.

This historical performance was performed on original instruments and at original pitch. Today’s orchestras ‘tune’ to A=440, however, in 1730 they ‘tuned’ the instruments to A=415.

There are concerts at the Hacienda throughout the year and their program is always evolving.
